About a week or so ago I wrote about this trailer and expressed my doubts about where the plot could possibly go and the CGI in the trailer. I saw the trailer for Gravity in front of The Great Gatsby in 3D and it completely turned me around on the CGI front. The CGI looked fantastic on the big screen and the 3D looked quite impressive for a film that was postconverted and not shot in native 3D. I suppose since the film is mostly visual effects it makes it a bit easier to implement the 3D with the postconversion process. I still wonder where the hell the plot is going to go after that trailer, but the visual effects looked stunning on the big screen.
The trailer for Ryan Coogler’s highly anticipated film “Fruitvale Station” is out. The film is based on the last day of the life of Oscar Grant, the unarmed 22-year-old black man who was shot and killed in Oakland by a transit officer on New Year’s Day in 2009. The film adaptation, originally titled “Fruitvale”, got lots of attention at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and stars Michael B. Jordan and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer.
After Grant’s death, Colorlines.com’s Julianne Hing reported extensively on the trial of Johannes Mehserle, the transit officer who was later convicted in his slaying. You can read that reporting here.
I’m always around fruitvale bart station…..
The buzz around this film has been amazing. I’m a HUGE fan of Michael B. Jordan’s work in The Wire, Friday Night Lights, and Chronicle. I hope this is the movie that helps him get bigger in Hollywood.
Check out the teaser trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s GRAVITY, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as astronauts who are stranded in space after their shuttle explodes. It’s amazing how this minute and a half trailer is able to capture the tranquil beauty and the sheer terror of space at the same time. I don’t know about you, but I got goosebumps watching this video and I can’t wait to see it. Gravity plummets into US theaters in October 2013.
I know that film geeks all over the world are losing their minds over this trailer but I don’t know… I’m more so worried. Alfonso Cuaron is one of my favorite directors of all-time after A Little Princess, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Children of Men (which is a flat out masterpiece). I’m just sort of wondering how they can possibly make Sandra Bullock floating in space for the last hour entertaining/thrilling. I suppose I shouldn’t doubt a great filmmaker like Cuaron because someone like Danny Boyle managed to make a guy stuck in a spot fascinating with 127 Hours. I’m not blown away by the visual effects, something about it just feels off. It feels a bit too floaty and artificial to me although I might just need to see this on a movie screen vs. my laptop. It’s like how Avatar didn’t look so great from the trailers but looked beautiful on the big screen. I know the talent that Cuaron has and his attention to detail and character so I’ve got my fingers crossed that he’ll deliver another spectacular film that will stay within the film culture.
Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds team up in this campy fantasy adventure adapted from the comic book of the same name. R.I.P.D. (Rest in Peace Department) follows a team of police officers resurrected to battle pesky demons and other pestilence that refuse to stay dead. If you were seeing flashbacks to Men in Black as you were watching the trailer, don’t worry, it’s not just you. R.I.P.D. hits theaters in June 2013.
Looks like it could be fun or a complete train wreck. Ryan Reynolds doesn’t exactly have the best track records when it comes to choosing mainstream movies. Jeff Bridges seems to be recycling his True Grit performance except a lot wackier. I definitely got a big Men in Black vibe from this trailer. If this movie is half as good as MIB then we’re in for a good time.
The new Man of Steel trailer is just ;lkaj;dlfkjas;dlfkjas!!!!
CATCHING FIRE TRAILER!!
looks pretty good!
Damn! It looks like they stepped up the production values big time. I love that they showed off Philip Seymour Hoffman in this trailer. Pretty great that they just hinted at the big reveal of Catching Fire towards the end, although I assume in subsequent trailers they’ll have to give that away because without it this movie just looks like a political drama with no action in it lol.
BTW: I love the Hunger Games four note whistle theme. Call it blasphemous but I feel like it could be this generation’s Harry Potter theme. And if you know how much I love Harry Potter you know I don’t take that comparison lightly.
First trailer for The Way, Way Back. Looks both hilarious and heartfelt, very excited to see this film this summer!
so this looks mild
An English version of Bad Lieutenant? Hahah, that police oppression line seriously made me LOL.
Elysium, my #1 anticipated film, thanks to the comic-con footage last summer.
The first trailer for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters trailer.
I was a big fan of the Percy Jackson series, they’re light, fast paced, easy reads and I was psyched when I heard they were going to do a film adaptation. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (which is a super long title lol) came in early 2010 and was a small success at the box office, but completely ruined the book losing out on many of the details that made it great. Simply put the movie was almost nothing like the book. I thought it was still a relatively fun popcorn flick, but I had to accept the fact that it lost a lot of things from the book.
I’m glad to see that with Sea of Monsters they’re starting to adhere closer to the book. It is odd that they couldn’t bring back Pierce Brosnan as Chiron considering he’s a big character in the books. Other than that it’s nice to see that they’re actually bringing in details/characters that SHOULD have been introduced in the first movie such as the Oracle and Clarisse.
Unfortunately, the polish of this film seems to be lacking. The CGI and big effects heavy pieces don’t look very convincing at all. I’m curious as to what the budget of this film was and if they tried to keep costs lower than The Lightning Thief in case this film doesn’t make money at the box office. I’m probably going to end up checking this film out just because I’m a fan of the series and want to see how this turns out (plus, it has Nathan Fillion! I mean come on, it’s Nathan Fillion!). Hopefully it’s better than the trailer suggests and we get a fun popcorn flick, that’s all I ask!
Trailer for Before Midnight!
Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are two of my favorite movies of all-time and the fact that they both received sequels EXACTLY 9 years after the previous film is beyond mindblowing. I suppose you can’t understand the excitement I have for this film if you haven’t seen those two movies, but Before Midnight is easily my most anticipated movie of 2013, and there are a TON of potentially great releases coming out this year.
A few moments that I loved in the trailer… When Celine asks Jesse if he met her today would he ask her to get off the train and the way Jesse says “Of course!” The inflection in his voice that there is no doubt in his mind that he would ask and the thought that he might not is absolutely absurd. Also, when Jesse says “I assure you that guy you vaguely remember, the sweet romantic one that you met on a train? That is me.” his voice has a hint of melancholy as if he knows that he’s lost a little bit of his younger, more youthful self, but that underneath it all he is still the same guy she fell in love with 18 years ago (that line always makes me tear up a bit every time I get to it in the trailer). That little bit where Celine is watching the sun setting behind the mountain is very bittersweet as well.
I am SO EXCITED for this movie!
Despicable Me 2 - Official Trailer #3 (HD) Steve Carell (by joblomovienetwork)
I wasn’t too hot on the original Despicable Me because I thought it had a lot of potential that it failed to live up to (that and it came out the same year Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon did, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON! Come on now!). This looks relatively promising although I already have a feeling that it’s not going to fully live up to the premise. My immediate guess plot-wise is that the Anti-Villain League is going to be the real baddies, so let’s hope there’s more to this movie than that lol.
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS… and no Aldrin, i don’t wanna hear about how much you hated Hangover 2. #BOOOOOM.
The Hangover Part III Official Trailer #1 (2013) - Bradley Cooper Hangover 3 Movie HD (by movieclipsTRAILERS)
LMFAO! You know me so well Robby hahaha. Well hopefully the fact that they didn’t just play madlibs with the plot structure of the first Hangover film to make the sequel means we might get a decent movie this time. I’m not holding my breath though lol.
Are you fucking kidding me??? This movie looks absolutely ridiculous and I fucking love it! How did the Fast & Furious franchise go from B movie guilty pleasure to a legitimately great action series? I may be jumping the gun here with Fast & Furious 6, but I can’t see this movie disappointing me, especially since it looks like they’re taking Fast Five and ramping everything up a notch. This is going to be AMAZING!
