On the USF nursing FB page someone asked about a final for a professor I had last semester and how it went. I seriously wanted to respond “I went in pretty confident and then I took the final and it completely and utterly destroyed every fiber within me. I went to from an A to an A- and barely held on for dear life to that grade. Good luck!” LOL.

When I feel like I can’t respond to someone’s FB status because we don’t really talk to each other much or we’re not really that cool, all I can wonder is “Why the fuck are we ‘friends’ on FB?” lol.
So I was just thinking recently about Tumblr and this thought came to me, “what is it about Tumblr that separates it from other social networking sites?” What is it about Tumblr that inspires such love and community where other places like Twitter or Facebook do not? I think we’ve all seen those posts on Tumblr which bash Facebook or breakdown why other sites are inferior to Tumblr (which are highly amusing if I say so myself lol), but why?
I think that one reason is that Tumblr is a place that we all come to share the things we all love (and, conversely, the things we hate haha). Whether it be a piece of writing that resonates with us, a TV show we used to love as a kid, a movie that we all enjoyed, a song that we really love right now, etc. We see these things and like the post and/or reblog it, sometimes with our own comments.
With Facebook, so much of it feels self-centered in a way that, for some reason, Tumblr usually does not. With Facebook it’s always “I went here on Saturday night” or “look what I just ate!” or (this really grinds my gears) stuff stolen from Tumblr -like pictures, quotes, etc.- and posted on Facebook as their original material/ideas. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Facebook statuses screencapped and put on Tumblr with “ARE YOU SERIOUS?” or “this is why our generation is getting stupider” or whatever else haha. I mean, sure, I’ve seen a few Tumblr ones like that as well, but the Facebook ones seem genuinely like hate whereas the Tumblr ones are usually just plain hilarious like this one.
Tumblr feels like a place to go to share the things you love, whereas Facebook seems like a place to just show off. With Tumblr we post, like, and reblog things because we can relate/connect to it, with Facebook people post because they want other people to notice them and it feels a lot more self-centered. Facebook seems like it’s screaming “me, me, me!” whereas Tumblr is saying “hey guys remember how awesome this was!?”
Also, with Tumblr, we choose which people we want to follow. We choose to follow someone because we like what they post about and want to see more from them. Sure there might be some people you follow because you know them or some people who just follow everybody in hopes of becoming “Tumblr famous,” but generally speaking you choose to follow someone because you like what they post.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not “Tumblr famous” haha. Whenever I see someone like or reblog something I put on my Tumblr I still get that little feeling of “oh, they liked the same thing I did!” I generally tend to “like” a lot of posts from people I follow but it’s never to be like “I hope they follow me!” or “maybe they’ll start to like my posts!” or any other motive other than “I really liked/loved this post.”
I’m not necessarily saying that Facebook/Twitter is useless (I do have a Facebook and Twitter account after all haha), but only that Tumblr seems to be the one social networking site I’m a part of that inspires a lot more community and love than the others. Tumblr is a lot different than other blogging sites I’ve been a part of in the past and it just feels like there’s something special with this one, you know?
People are saying happy birthday to a fake Facebook account that my brother made just so he could get more stuff for his Restaurant City game HAHAHAHA!
Randy: You should really put the room number or something next time.
Jino: I put it on the Facebook invite! You saw it, right Aldrin?
Me: I wasn’t even invited.
Jino: Oh fuck, my bad dude…
-_-
*sigh* lol
“You set me up!”
“You’re gonna blame me because you were the business head of the company and you made a bad business deal with your own company?”
I think I have this entire scene memorized verbatim haha.
