Three directors on the short list: Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men), David Cronenberg (A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, The Fly), and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Amorres Perros, 21 Grams, and Babel).

My first reaction: WOW!

Lionsgate is seriously reaching for something artistically amazing if these three directors are part of the short list of people they want to make Catching Fire. My obvious pick would be Alfonso Cuaron because I think the man is a cinematic genius, but how insane would a Cronenberg or Inarritu Catching Fire movie be?

If Cuaron was seriously considering it, I could see him doing an unbelievable job with Catching Fire. First off, he’s already made a fantastic blockbuster film from a book adaptation before (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) AND he knows how to create a realistic dystopian world (Children of Men). There’s no doubt in my mind that if Lionsgate picks Cuaron, they are definitely more about making an amazing film than merely just cashing in one a hot property.

This abbreviated shortlist of directors has gotten me even more excited for Catching Fire than I originally was. Can’t wait to see who Lionsgate goes with!
