Heartbreaking game tonight. As much as I want to - and WILL - blame Kyle Williams, the 49ers should have taken care of business at home and the Giants put up a hell of a fight. My interest in the NFL (and sports in general) has waned in the past few years, but I can’t say that this doesn’t hurt.
For the people who say don’t blame Kyle Williams… mannnnnn, that’s like saying “don’t blame Chris Webber for the Michigan/North Carolina timeout fiasco! If Juwan Howard or Jalen Rose didn’t miss a couple free throws in the first half, they would’ve won!” NO. Kyle Williams maybe doesn’t deserve ALL of the blame, this is a team sport after all, but he choked in the spotlight and the dude should be called out for it.
Despite how disappointing an ending this is to our season, 49ers fans should be happy that we had such a fantastic season and things are only looking up from here. Very excited to see what happens in the 2012 NFL season!
@dividethesheep and I knew this was coming =(
I kind of wish the Packers won last week so I wouldn’t have to work tomorrow because I have so much reading I need to do! True, I could just call off work and stay home and read, but you must be out of your damn mind if you think I’m going to miss the 49ers play for the NFC Championship at home, OUT OF YOUR DAMN MIND!
As far as who I think will win? I honestly don’t know… Eli Manning has been on FIRE this year (I would know, he was on my fantasy team haha) and he’s really proved that he’s an elite quarterback. Our defense has been excellent with the takeaways this year so Eli vs. our secondary should be a good match up to watch all game long. Although last week we had 5 takeaways and still had to win in the last minute, usually that amount of takeaways would lead to a blowout. Then again we were playing Drew Brees and the prolific Saints offense, but the Giants are no slouch either. Hopefully the 49ers can ride the momentum of last week’s win all the way to the Super Bowl, but we’ve got our work cut out for us that’s for sure.
I have never seen any game live that was crazier than that one. I mean what a freakin’ win! I’ve see some close games at Candlestick park before, but to have game like that? In the playoffs? Un-freakin’-believable! I can’t remember the last time I was that exhilarated after watching any sporting event. Maybe the Warriors knocking off the Mavs in ‘07? But seeing it live is just something else! I’ve never seen Candlestick Park buzzing with that much electricity in any of the 8 seasons I’ve been working there. This was the first time I’ve attended a playoff game in any sport and it is definitely something I’ll look back on and cherish the fact that I can say “I was at that playoff game where Alex Smith brought us back TWICE against the Saints.” I said it before and I’ll say it again, “UN-FREAKIN’-BELIEVABLE!”
I’ve always defended Alex Smith and it’s great to finally see what he can do with actual talent and competent coaching.
The 49ers/Saints playoff game is easily the MOST INCREDIBLE game I have ever seen in person!
Side note: I look fucking CRAZY in this picture. I’m just so hyped!
Plain White T’s played at Candlestick Park today at halftime of the 49ers/Seahawks game. I never really liked them that much, but they had a few cool songs on their first album, one of which they played and I wanted to yell the lyrics out “COME BACK TO ME I’LL BE HERE WAITING! CUZ I’M ON MY KNEES AND MY LOVE’S WORTH SAVING! IF YOU COULD SEE THE SAD LOOK ON MY FACE, YOU’D BE IN YOUR CAR HEADED BACK TO MY PLACE!” but that would’ve looked bad considering I was working and not attending the game lol.
Working the 49ers/Raiders game was fucking CRAZY. Thankfully no fights broke out in my two sections, but there were at least a half dozen scuffles throughout the game, and that’s only from what I could see, no idea what was happening on the opposite end of the field directly across from us.
The absolute worst one was near the south end zone about 2 minutes into halftime. I hear a commotion starting up and look at where everyone starts to turn their heads to, there’s this huge guy who’s at least 350+ pounds putting a headlock on some dude and he’s just got him locked up for a good 30-45 seconds before ANYONE gets to him. Finally security starts running and police come and when he sees the police he drops the dude and the guy just falls face first flat on the floor, OUT COLD. I seriously couldn’t believe it took THAT long for our guys to respond, especially at halftime when there’s probably more security/police on the field because of the halftime show.
The other really bad one was around section 5-7, there was like 3-4 dudes just straight flat out swinging at each other and that one went on for a while as well before anyone broke it up. I saw someone got video of it on youtube if you just search “49ers raiders fight” and uploaded this week. Thankfully this shit didn’t go down in my area because I sure as hell don’t want to answer to the higher ups about why I let some shit like that escalate under MY watch.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, sports just brings out the GOON in otherwise rational people. It’s kind of why I’ve started to drift away from watching sports because I just can’t stand the GOONINESS of it all. I mean, I still love sports but to put it to the point where you’ll fight someone over it or say “IT’S MY LIFE” when all you’re doing is just watching other people play, I just can’t get behind that kind of mindset. There’s a difference between sports LITERALLY being your life as in you coach a team, play for a team, or work for a team, but when you’re just a spectator and you say that? That’s just kind of sad to me. I mean I’ll root for my team, but I would never take it THAT far.
