^ THIS! I was still in my “J.J. Abrams isn’t THAT good” phase of my life when Cloverfield came out and I never bothered with it. I bought this movie for cheap and watched it at like 3 A.M. a few years ago and was BLOWN AWAY by it. The sheer technical filmmaking prowess on display was amazing. I couldn’t believe how freakin’ good this movie was!
