darthluzader replied to your post: What I watched this week: 7/24 - 7/30
The second and third Pirates of the Caribbean movies needed a little more Gore and less Verbinski.

So I finally got around to watching season one of The Wire and I have to say that everybody was 100% correct in their praise of this show. This show is a fucking achievement in television. I’m writing up a longer post about the first season of The Wire and why I loved it. Hopefully I’ll finish that soon.
I watched Rubber on Netflix watch instantly. Rubber is about a telekinetic killer rubber tire, no you did not misread that. If that sounds at all intriguing, go check it out. The movie runs at a scant 85 minutes, although that feels a bit long at times. I thought the movie had an interesting meta aspect to it that explores the idea of a “movie world” and it was also just flat out hilarious at parts. There’s a bit too many dull spots for me to wholeheartedly recommend, but if these kind of quirky off the beaten path movies interest you, then you might like Rubber.
I also rewatched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and it was as glorious, if not more so, as the first half dozen times I watched the film. The movie just has so much packed into each frame. The references and little details are phenomenal. Whether it’s a video game sound effect in the background, the fantastic transitions (which Edgar Wright as always been known for), or the whole “you’re reading a comic book as a movie” vibe that the movie gives off. Scott Pilgrim feels like it was made with such care and so much respect for the source material. When I say movies should be made with good intentions and to tell a great story, and not in order to make as much money as possible, Scott Pilgrim is a prime example of that. It’s a shame this movie didn’t do so well at the box office, but hopefully more and more people experience this film on Blu-ray/DVD because it’s a film that should be seen by everyone, especially those of us who grew up in the 80’s or 90’s.
Also saw The Ring for the first time since 2003 or 2004. I have the film on DVD but I don’t find myself revisiting it much because even though I enjoyed this film, I’m not a big horror fan (I will admit I am a bitch when it comes to horror films). The Ring is a legitimately good movie, but I can’t help but attribute its success to bringing a shit ton of crappy American horror remakes/reboots. Besides The Ring, what other horror remake that came after it was actually decent? Also, when the credits hit and I saw “Directed by Gore Verbinski” I flipped out because I couldn’t believe the guy who did the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies and The Weather Man directed The Ring haha.
Yes, I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the fourth time in theaters (which is a record for me!). I loved the film just as much the fourth time around, this was just such a brilliant send off to a fantastic series. The movie never fails to hit me emotionally, even the fourth time around. Part of it is that I’ve been a fan of this series since 1999 and everything in this series has accumulated to this. The Prince’s Tale section of the film always turns me into a weepy motherfucker without fail. I’m planning to see this movie at least a couple more times and with whoever wants to go see it with me.
I already talked about There Will Be Blood here and I’m writing up a blog post on In Bruges.
Mom: You’re antisocial.
Me: I figured that out a long time ago mom.
HAHAHAHA TRUE THAT!
Transformers 3 had a story? Haha okay seriously now, I’m trying to think back on the movie… if I recall correctly, the pillars actually brought the Decepticons which were buried on the moon to Earth. Remember the trailer shot with all the Decepticons coming out from beneath the surface of the moon? And then after that they were going to use the pillars to bring Cybertron to Earth and rebuild it or something like that. I don’t know, a lot of Transformers 3 didn’t make sense haha. Thanks for reading my Tumblr! And I hope I somewhat answered your question, I tried lol.
